Contribution of Primary Agricultural Co-operative Society in food grain production of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The agriculture sector has a very important contribution to the rural development of a developing country like India, which without the contribution of Uttar Pradesh in food grains production is incomplete. Hence, to maintain the development of the agricultural sector and its fulfilment, a high cost is required which is fulfilled by the rural credit delivery systems. The present article discusses the role of sources and agencies providing agricultural credit, mostly co-operative banks give adequate credit to the farmers and which increase the productivity of the agricultural sector. This study covers the performance of primary agricultural co-operative societies, loan delivery, recovery, and growth pattern of food grain production in Uttar Pradesh and India. The analysis period covers from 1985-86 to 2014-15. The logical findings show that there is a positive correlation between credit and agricultural production in Uttar Pradesh and the share of agricultural finance in short and medium-term credit provided by co-operative banks has continuously been increasing.
