Abstract

The issue of domestic violence against women is a very critical one in Indonesia. It is mainly caused by the patriarchal culture and the weak and subordinate position of women. Women are more vulnerable to this kind of domestic violence at home. It occurs when their partner or other male members of the family are involved. This study focuses on the various kinds of domestic violence that are common in a rural area in Indonesia. It discusses the various factors that are responsible for this type of violence. The last section will analyze the role of the state and institutional agencies in addressing the issue of domestic violence against women.
